DAY 3
Orlik castle
The castle Orlik is built by the Vlatava river. The last owners - the Schwarzenberks - got the castle back in the restitutions after the end of the Communism. Perched upon a rock above the left-hand Vltava bank , Orlik castle derived its name from the resemblance to an eagle´s nest. This former royal Gothic castle is located above the valley of Vltava, surrounded by Orlicka dam. The Schwarzenbergs had it rebuilt to a Romanesque-Gothic chateau. The sightseeing path introduces visitors to the history of the chateau, the life of its inhabitants, it shows collections of paintings, furniture, weapons, hunting tropheys and a set of awards and medals which the chateau´s proprietors received for various merits.

Zvikov castle
The unique and dramatic natural setting of headland on the confluence of the Vltava and Otava Rivers, which was only accessible along a narrow isthmus and whose rocky side walls were almost vertical until water was let in the dam lake of Orlik, made it ideal building site from the defence point of view. Reconstructions having not damaged too much the castle´s original appearance, the 13th century Zvikov is a unique example of a large royal fortified castle of that glorious period of Czech history.

Tabor
The old medieval town from the 14th century Hussite times. The medieval underground passages , totalling around 14km in length , originating in the linking of the extensive two and three storey cellars of the townhouses above. The temperature underground varies around 10 degrees C/ 50 degrees F all year.

Representative interiors contain rare collections of Flemish tapestries, weapons, furniture and paintings. This is the most beautiful castle in the Czech Republic.
