The City of Olomouc (100 373 inhabitants) is one of the most important Czech cities.
The city of Olomouc lies in the valley of the Morava river. Elevated geographical features in the west and, mainly, in the east form the boundary of lowland surrounding the city.
The ancient town of Olomouc, ranks, behind Prague, as the second most important and largest urban conservation area in the Czech Republic. In 2000 Olomouc was recorded in the List of World Cultural and Natural Heritage of UNESCO thanks to the Baroque Holy Trinity Column. Visitors to the town have many opportunities of how to spend their time there, whether from the point of view of social or cultural interest.
- The Holy Trinity Column (a 35 m high sculpture, in 2000 included in the List of World Cultural Heritage of UNESCO) * The Town Hall with an Astronomical Clock (the first record dates back to 1378, an original Gothic structure with Renaissance adaptations, the astronomical clock was created in the 15th century, today’s appearance dates back to the 1950s) * the Przemyslide Palace (remains of a Romanesque palace from the 12th century) * the Cathedral of St. Wenceslas (a Neo-Gothic structure with the highest tower in the CZ – 100.6 m high) * the Cathedral of St. Moritz (a late Gothic church from the turn of the 14th and 15th centuries with a unique organ dating back to 1745) * the Archbishop’s Palace (one of the most spectacular palace structures of the 17th century) * the Set of Baroque Fountains (fountains with mythological motifs from the 17th – 18th centuries)
