The late Gothic castle at Svihov deserves an extraordinary position among fortification complexes. Erected under the participation of architect Benedict Rejt in the place of a former stronghold at the turn of the 16th century, the core of this castle consists of two residential wings closing the inner courtyard.
The surrounding castle area had been fortified with bastions and hemmed round with another moat, forming together with several adjacent ponds an artificial island.
By virtue of its water fortification system, Svihov ranked among the most advanced strongholdsat that time. The interiors shall usher the visitors into the life of the castle´s inhabitants in the 16th century. In addition to Gothic sculptures in the chapel, the castle offers several other features - namely a painted coffered ceiling in the Ball Hall, and the castle armoury. Regular exhibitions covering various historical themes are held in teh Exhibition Hall.
