The Litomerice region, characteristic of riverside lowlands and with its volcanic outcrops offers a rich variety of natural features. The fertility of the landscape earned it the name Garden of Bohemia back in the 17th century.
Here, at the confluence of the Labe and Ohre rivers, in the picturesque region of the Czech Central Mountains, lies one of the oldest and most beautiful Czech towns, the royal town of Litomerice, whose population nowadays is almost 26,000 people. As mute witness to the historic glory of Royal Litomerice stand Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque buildings, protected under an urban preservation order since the year 1978.
Out of 256 sites, 104 of them are listed in the state record of cultural real-estate monuments, and almost all of them are to found in the historical heart of the town, which for the most part is encircled by well-preserved Gothic fortifications.
The houses around the square, the ancient cellars, numerous churches, the museum, several galleries, all these and a host of other interesting features await your visit. Should you get tired of walking around, stroll over to the fortification parklands, where you can refresh yourself in the peace and quiet, with a view over old Litomerice and Domský peak, not to mention the panorama of the Czech Central Mountains, Hazmburk and the memorable Rip mountain, and here you will see why the romantic poet K. H. Macha loved this region so much.

The oldest place in Litomerice is Cathedral Hill where the first Slavonic settlements appeared in the 8th century and where the Slavs erected a powerful early medieval castle, the guardian of surrounding land. This fortified settlement was one of the most important in Bohemia. Thanks to Cosmas, the earliest Czech chronicler, we know the local Slavonic tribe by its name - Liutomerici. Dated May 31, 993 A. D., there is documentary evidence of the province of Litomerice.
Town hall cellar was opened in the spring of 1993 in the historical cellar of the house č.p.21 the Peace Square in Litomerice.
This is the core of a Renaissance building with a baroque layered scrolled gable. In Baroque rebuilt at the turn of the 17th and 18 century.
